Your home office should be a place where you feel comfortable doing your best work day after day. A team of work-from-home veterans spent more than 150 hours researching and testing equipment for a variety of workspaces and picked out some great gear, including things we use daily in our own home offices.
Standing desk and desk mat
The Ergo Depot Jarvis Bamboo is the best value we’ve seen in a full-size standing desk for anyone who wants to alternate between sitting and standing while working. It’s the sturdiest standing desk we’ve ever tested, with no front-to-back wobble, even at its full height. At under $800 currently, it’s half the price of desks that are less stable. You can configure your Jarvis Bamboo with options such as monitor arms, keyboard or pencil trays, or power management. It comes with a seven-year warranty and ships faster than most desks (depending on the configuration). Most important, it looks slick whether in the standing-up position or at table height, and it feels solid and smooth under your arms.
We’d pair it with a standing-desk mat, which helps you stand longer at your desk by relieving pressure on your heels, back, and feet. The most supportive and comfortable mat we’ve found is the Imprint CumulusPRO. Made of a single, durable piece of 24-by-36-inch polyurethane, it won’t release odorous and toxic fumes. It provides cushioned but firm support, and it won’t curl up at its edges like other mats we considered and tested. In our tests, it was also the only mat to survive having a stapler dropped onto it from standing height without exhibiting a puncture or scratch. But if something does go wrong, it comes with a 10-year warranty.
